2014 Chalmers Montevecchio Bianco White Heathcote Blend

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here's something a little different that would go great with your mid-week seafood. There's plenty of apples and stone fruits on the nose, along with some subtle soft spice for added lift. The palate is light to medium-bodied, with crisp, clean flavours, crunchy acidity, and a refreshing finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Montevecchio Bianco is a co-fermented field blend made from Vermentino, Fiano and a small percentage of Moscato Giallo.

Fresh and fruity yet savoury, this wine shows notes of ripe white peach, fresh cut red apple and minerals. It is crisp yet giving on the palate with a clean dry finish.

Expert Reviews

Campbell Mattinson (2014 Vintage) says
A co-fermented blend of Vermentino (mostly), Fiano and a smidgen of Moscato Gallo. All natural yeast. Fundamentally textural white wine. Perfumed and pretty in general, though crisp, but its key appeal is the way it feels as it rolls through the mouth. Stone fruits and spice. Almost into apricot. But dry. Not hard to enjoy, that’s for certain.
Campbell Mattinson (2015 Vintage) says

Co-fermented field blend of Vermentino (82%), Fiano (16%) and Moscato Giallo (2%). As an aside, the Montevecchio website is interesting for the way it pitches to a specific market. Within its style/theme it’s pretty well done too.

This is an easy wine to recommend. It feels and tastes good, and then finishes with a confident burst of flavour. Stone fruit, spice, chalk and wax. There’s a musky, floral, almost rosewater-like character here – which does nothing but add appeal. It’s a delicious drink, interesting, textural, with lots of spark.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
A blend of vermentino, fiano and moscato giallo; whether the total is greater than the sum of the parts I have no idea, but there are some interesting flavours here, including spiced baked apple. For the wine nerds, for sure.
