Cracka Review

What is impressive about this wine is that it smells like Cabernet. That may sound like a funny thing to say, but McLaren Vale Cabernet has a reputation for just smelling like ripe fruit. This instead has purple fruit, leafy notes and also proper grown up tannins. The end result is ultimately quite complex and sophisticated, with firm tannins and lots of flavour.

Winemaker's Notes

Coriole Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Estate vineyards that are approximately 20-25 years old. Soils are Terra Rossa - red, brown earth over limestone, which have proven to be ideal for growing Cabernet in McLaren Vale.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Medium to full red-purple; an excellent example of the way McLaren Vale can stamp its regional character on cabernet without compromising its varietal character; here savoury dark chocolate aromas and flavours are sewn through the plentiful fruit of a medium- to full-bodied wine.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Deep purple-crimson; a potent, full-bodied cabernet, with earth, leather, dark chocolate and a full supply of black fruits supported by French oak and savoury tannins that provide overall balance. Hard to visualise the end-point for this wine. Estate-grown.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Syrupy black varietal fruit blends with powerful sweet oak and nice chalky tannins. 5+

WINESTATE (2006 Vintage) says
Described as, _a big, broad Old World styleî by one judge. Concentrated plum fruits, caramel oak and huge tannins.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Pure varietal aromas lead into a palate which (unexpectedly) is driven by dry, rough tannins which may soften some day.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Deep colour; clean, ripe, luscious blackcurrant and touches of dark chocolate; silky mouthfeel and perfect alcohol.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; a fresh and youthful bouquet with blackcurrant and touches of leaf and mint; on the palate riper, more chocolatey fruit opens up a nice wine supported by neatly handled oak.
