Cracka Review

The Cracka Barrel Story

At Cracka we are always on the lookout for those little unexpected gems. And as we have grown, more and more of these little parcels come our way. Usually only crafted in small volumes we have always offered our very best wines only to our VIP customers. But word got out and now we can’t satisfy the demand, which is where Cracka Barrel comes in. It’s the best of the best, the crème de la crème of Australian wines from your favourite wineries – wines we managed to prize at never to be repeated prices.

So every time we are travelling around the country visiting Australia’s top wineries our team are on the lookout for the next Cracka Barrel – our very favourite wines of the year from the finest regions, with at best 6 releases every year. Our buyers are so picky that we reckon only 1 of 300 potentials make the grade, which means you can be absolutely guaranteed of their quality. And best of all – they will all improve in the cellar – that’s if you can keep your hands off them.

Winemaker's Notes

The Cracka Barrel series is our best of the best – select parcels we seek out from top winemakers around the country. Our second release is a richly flavoured Margaret River Shiraz from the stellar 2014 vintage. Fruit was harvested in various parcels and fermented with partial whole bunches for complexity. The wine was then transferred to a combination of French and American oak to mature for 18 months prior to bottling. A Cracka in every sense of the word.

expert reviews about

2014 Cracka Barrel Margaret River Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2014 Vintage) says
First impressions on the bouquet is peppermint: unusual for Margaret River. Things settle down to a more predictable theme, with red fruit and gamey notes emerging, supported by a dollop of oak. Flavours of dark plum, dark chocolate and sweet spice are threaded through the palate which is supple and long... Needs a little time.
