2014 De Bortoli Noble One (375ml)
Cracka Value Rating
Appearance: Bright golden.
Bouquet: Expressive aromas of cumquats, nectarines, apricots, mandarin peel with integrated fresh vanillin oak.
Palate: A medley of Botrytis fruit flavours, citrus, stone fruit, a touch of butterscotch with a glace pineapple tang to a long alluring palate. A fine balance of oak, sweetness and acidity that gives finesse to a powerful Botrytis spectrum.
Vintage conditions: Showers of rain in late February along with cooler temperatures following a hot dry summer instigated the onset of Botrytis across the vineyards. Regular showers of rain in the ensuing weeks allowed the Botrytis to flourish with harvesting taking place over a couple of weeks during April.
Winemaking: The fruit for the 2014 Noble One was once again selected from the same vineyards that have a long and prodigious history of producing fine examples of Botrytis Semillon given the right weather conditions. With regular visits to the vineyard in the months leading up to the harvest, this allows us to closely track the degree of Botrytis development and determine the perfect time to pick the fruit. The essence of flavours produced from each vineyard having their individual traits, we harvest, ferment and mature each parcel separately. Then we blend together these components to capture the exotic beauty of Noble One Botrytis Semillon.
Cellaring: This wine will continue to prosper and develop comp.
Food match: This fruit driven style matches well with:
Creamy desserts - panacotta; trifle
Fruity desserts - poached pears and mascarpone cream; lemon tart
Cheese plates - blue and washed rind cheeses, fig or dried fruits
Additional information: Suitable for Vegetarians.
expert reviews about
2014 De Bortoli Noble One (375ml)
Some colour deepening, but still bright; De Bortoli remains the best Australian producer of this style, but the world has moved on from the glory days when critics raved about the wine, eagerly awaiting each release. This is still a luscious and perfectly balanced wine.
A very fine and pristine expression of this signature wine that retains elegance, freshness and focus despite its extraordinary levels of concentration and intensity. Its faintly smoky, waxy bouquet of melon, orange rind, vanilla oak and brioche opens slowly, while its luscious and supremely intense palate marries lustrous flavours of stonefruit, melon and citrus with toasty undertones of nougat and creme caramel. It finishes with remarkable length and a finely balanced acidity.2017-2021+The Australian Wine Annual 2013
Celebrating its 30th birthday last year, Noble One holds its position among benchmark Australian botrytis semillon, and the 2009 release is outstanding. Its bright, golden honey hue announces glorious aromas of cumquat marmalade, apricot jam and vanilla, with just a hint of savoury reduction. The palate is unctuous, with toffee, creme brulee and apricot jam, delightfully enlivened by a bitter tangelo zest freshness on a very long and honeyed finish.2013 - 2024http://tysonstelzer.com/
Noble One has long established itself as the best Botrytis Semillon in Australia, and this vintage simply reinforces that reputation; luscious fruit, oak and acidity all play their part on the extremely long and complex palate.500ml.To 2019Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition
De Bortoli does it again, living up to its reputation as the country's most thrilling sweet semillon. It's a celebration of dried apricot, honey, toffee, crème brûlée and marmalade but it really comes into its own in the way that it balances its unctuous complexity with its fresh, clean, long palate.
Simply a marvellous wine that has delivered so consistently over nearly thirty years, this has deep golden colour in the glass and smells of rich marmalade and dried apricot, with nutty nuances and cumquat rind. The palate's dense yet beautifully balanced, built in layers of texture and rich citrus flavour, yet finishing with impressive balanced style. A triumph!NowThe Good Wine Guide
Brilliant green-gold; has all the luscious intensity expected, ranging through citrus, cumquat and vanilla bean, yet is not over the top. Its best features are its balance, line and extreme length, similar to that of the '02.375 ml.Australian Wine Companion 2011 2010
"The 25th vintage is a cracking rendition of Australia's most famous Botrytis Semillon. Citrus zest, peach and apricot freshness offset its honeyed, crème brûlée richness. The balance of tight acidity and sweetness is spot on."WBM Magazine 2009
Australia's benchmark botrytis semillon is alive and well in the '06 vintage, showing plenty of dried apricot, lime rind and candied cumquat aromas. The palate rolls smooth and deep, very polished, juicy and intense, peach fruits here, lime through the finish, gentle grilled nuts close it off; fresh, intense and impeccably balanced.Good Australian Wine Guide 2009 2008
Green-gold; intense citrus, cumquat, honey and peach on a long, lingering palate; perfect acidity.Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
Luscious, concentrated dessert wine with pungent, honeyed and buttery aromas of quince and cumquat, melon and apricot. Deeply concentrated, its lavish, opulent palate offers length and viscosity, delivering vibrant, spotlessly clean flavour and sweetness before a refreshingly clear finish. Great richness and balance.Australian Wine Annual 2005 2004
Brilliant, glowing yellow-green; a rich, complex and luscious bouquet with butterscotch, citrus and subliminal oak is followed by a lively, fresh, peach, honey and lemon-flavoured palate; perfect acidity on the finish.Australian Wine Companion 2001 2001
