This Shiraz shows all of the plump red fruit that Heathcote is famous for, stirred in with a liberal dose of spice and grainy tannins for good measure. Heathcote itself is a great place for Shiraz, home to heavy-hitting wines like Wild Duck Creek Duck Muck and Jasper Hill's Georgia's Paddock Shiraz.

Needless to say that it's serious red wine country - and that's a big reason why this De Bortoli Heathcote Shiraz is so good! Packed full of plum and dark fruit flavours, it's a wonderfully rich and meaty red with both spicy fruit and real tannins.

Winemaker's Notes

Region: Heathcote.

Appearance: Deep red with purple edge.

Bouquet: Ripe dark fruit aromas with fragrance, spice, plum and black pepper.

Palate: Plump dark fruits, terrific concentration, gently layered flavours, fine tannin, soft finish.

Vintage conditions: 2014 was a terrific season in Heathcote with warm, dry conditions and balanced crops.

Winemaking: Fruit is sourced from carefully selected parcels of Shiraz grown on the red volcanic soils of Northern Heathcote. Fruit is harvested at 14.0-14.5 baume to achieve a balance of fruit ripeness and balanced acidity. Grapes are de-stemmed and crushed into both static and rotary fermenters. The resultant wine is then fermented for up to two weeks on skins prior to pressing and racking. A third of the blend is matured for five months in older casks and the remainder stays in tank for freshness and brightness.

Cellaring: Terrific now or enjoy over the next 4-6 years.
