Cracka Review

Pinot Noir purists beware, this is NOT a wine for you. If you like your Pinot Noir funky, then come on down. This gem from the team at Dirty Three is nubile, quizzical and antagonistic, all in one. Brambles, rosebuds, deli meats and dried cranberry on the nose, with an equally intriguing palate of crunchy acidity and firm grippy tannins. World beating Pinot modelled in a style that is becoming the 'new norm' for modern winemakers in Eastern Victoria.

Winemaker's Notes

Our single vineyard Pinot Noir from our Holgates Road property. Our soils are very free draining grey sand and gravel over clay and coffee rock which make them high in mineral content. The vines on this site tend to be less vigorous and need less manual manipulation than the red volcanic soils found nearby in the region. We don’t irrigate as we believe this messes with the vintage expression too much.

“This is the sixth vintage that I have made Pinot from this site as a single vineyard wine, and I am starting to get a feel for the vineyard and the way it ripens and develops over the season. 2014 was characterized by poor weather in November that affected fruit set and our subsequent yield- 50% down on normal. Fortunately the ripening period was almost perfect and the resulting wine is probably our best yet. Concentrated and deep, but with purity and elegance.”

12.9% Alc/Vol.

The Wine Front (2014 Vintage) says
Single Vineyard. Hand Picked. All Destemmed. Wild Yeast. No Acid additions. No filtration. No fining. 12.9% alcohol. This is good booze. It tips into exciting territory. It's smoky, silken, undergrowthy and firm with both tanning and sweet-sour fruit. Length is excellent. Inherent complexity seems both unforced and natural, yet pronounced. It wasn't the easiest of seasons and it seems as though the vines love it that way.
