2014 Elderton High Altitude Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

It's stacked full of leafy, blackcurrant fruit - full-bodied, dense, powerful - all you could ever ask for in top notch Barossa Cabernet. An absolute bargain!

Winemaker's Notes

This vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon shows typical cassis and red berry characters. 12 months in barrel has softened the tannins, whilst still showing Cabernet Sauvignon structure.

Style: Medium/full bodied, elegant

Colour: Deep red

Aroma: Blackcurrant, plum

Palate: Blackcurrant, red berries with gentle tannins

Drink: Now til 2020

Alc/vol: 13.5%

2014 Elderton High Altitude Cabernet Sauvignon

Expert Reviews

Wine Companion (2014 Vintage) says
This is a very useful cabernet, its freshness preserved by its good natural acidity (a corollary of the modest alcohol), cassis thus an integral part of the wine, the tannins fine but important.

The Wine Front (2012 Vintage) says
Pretty spiffy value here from Elderton out of the Barossa/Eden Valley. Wine formerly known as Elderton Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. We have ourselves a winner here. It’s a beautiful wine at a beautiful price. Pure cabernet. Dusty, boysenberried, marginally leafy but ripe and refreshing. No hesitation in recommending this. Fruit, acid and tannin are all perfectly pitched, aligned and integrated. Will drink well now or ‘ron. This is why we hang out for vintages like 2012.

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Bright crimson-purple; a totally delicious cabernet, putting a great vintage, a very good region, and skilled winemaking into a synergistic union; it is full of cassis, redcurrant and a touch of black olive, these fruit flavours precisely matched with French oak. The price is barely believable.
