Cracka Review

This uber-cool customer out of Western Australia is a sultry, more medium-bodied minx that would match well with tandoori lamb chops. It shows lots of dark berries, Chinese five spice and earthy savouriness on the nose, whilst the palate is elegant and poised, with dark plum and spiced blackcurrant flavours, fine tannins, and a kick of black pepper on the sauntering finish. This should cellar well for the next 5 to 7 years.

Winemaker's Notes

The style of the Dragon Shiraz is one of elegance with piercing fruit characteristics, destined to blossom further with careful cellaring. Shiraz is seen as the bastion of Frankland River. Luscious, dark fruits consisting of blueberry and plums, with hints of rhubarb and vanilla on a long fine palate.

Appearance: Crimson.

Nose: Perfumed nose of red berries and chocolate with hints of vanilla and leather.

Palate: Vibrant red berries and luscious dark fruits consisting plums and mulberries in the front palate. Robust, yet elegant tannins supporting the fruit offer great length.

Serve At room temperature 18°C.

Food: Enjoy with spring lamb roasted and infused with garlic and rosemary.

Cellaring: Will benefit from careful cellaring for up to 10 years.

Vinification: Shiraz benefitted from the cooler early summer months sufficiently protected from the hot sun to retain freshness and acidity, and ripened evenly through the warmer months to build flavour and ripen tannins. The freshly fermented wine is racked to new French oak. In oak the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and up to 20 months maturation.

A savoury, mineral and faintly sappy Rhone-inspired Shiraz whose spicy, peppery bouquet of redcurrants, blood plums and fresh cedar/vanilla oak reveals undertones of smoked meats and a hint of earthiness. It’s elegant, medium to full in body, with lively but restrained flavours of small red and blackberries, dark plums and a regional mintiness framed by a fine, pliant backbone and wound up by a lively acidity. It finishes with length, grip and a lingering core of fruit.
