OK – we’ve got a little secret at Cracka and it is time to come out of the closet. We bloomin’ love Grenache. I am not talking about a little fancy, or a crush, but a full-blown, hot and heavy love affair with the stuff. It’s a little hot climate gem, which can even look a little Pinot Noir like with its silky, red cherry fruits.
So if you, like us, are a card carrying member of GA, that’s Grenache Anonymous, then we’ve got a Grenache fix that will sort you right out. It is no retiring lily - big and bold - huge, mouthfilling fruit with that savoury edge that Grenache does so well.
Throw in some REALLY OLD CLARE VALLEY VINES which have survived almost a century of vintages and you’ve got yourself one top drawer GSM.
This is a ridiculously good wine at its price, or any price for that matter, Shiraz in particular adding substance and black fruits to accompany the softer red and purple fruit of the Grenache. All up, sheer hedonistic enjoyment for next to no money.
This classic Rhône blend (Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre) is the latest creation of Bill and Noel Ireland's success story.
Variety: 65% Grenache, 18% Shiraz, 17% Mataro (Mourvedre).
Aroma: Deep, very fruity and spicy aromas with plum, blackcurrant, redcurrant and black pepper.
Taste: Full-bodied, juicy and fruity flavour with very deep fruit and spicy hints of pepper, licorice and mushroom. Long, persistent, dark finish.
Food: Brilliant wine to most meat dishes but also plenty of cheeses, creamy pasta dishes or a luxury snack food buffet. Serve cool, about 18-19 degrees.
Cellaring Potential: Drink now to 2022.
