    cracka review

We wish everyday was a Chardonnay Day when we taste wines this good. The fact is Chardonnay is just as fashionable as it ever was and the good news is it’s being made with care so that fruit is in and oak is out. This is balanced and creamy with a lingering finish so it makes an excellent match for rich seafood dishes. Expect aromas of peach and vanilla as well as melon and cashew nut complexity. It has a soft and generous mouthfeel of textured fruit and subtle oak.

    expert reviews

    James Halliday (2014 Vintage) says
From four Burgundy clones, whole bunch-pressed to barrels and puncheons (20% new), wild ferment, matured for 10 months. Hits all the right buttons from the outset, fruit and oak waltzing perfectly together towards the finish, where grapefruit leaps to the fore.

A well-crafted chardonnay from two estate blocks; whole bunch-fermented with some solids in a mix of new and used oak plus 20% in stainless steel; very good balance and length.

Pale, bright colour, takes all the elements of the La Famiglia, but hones and fines them on its very long and perfectly balanced palate, grapefruit and white flesh stone fruit in a near-invisible web of oak.

Concentrated stone fruit chardonnay, very fresh with chablis-like acidity.

Bright green-straw; super-elegant, but intense, the citrus and nectarine fruit seamlessly welded to subde French oak; has great drive through the finish

High-quality winemaking gives a sure touch to the fusion of nectarine and grapefruit flavours with French oak; light- to medium-bodied, good length.

    winemaker's notes

Sunbury is often left off the southern Vic honour board when it comes to Chardonnay, an omission explained only by the relatively few producers. This wine is absolutely chock-full of stone fruit, melon and grapefruit flavours, all achieved at a low alcohol level that leaves intact the acidity needed to balance (and restrain) the exuberance of the fruit.
