Cracka Review

Chardonnay from the McLaren Vale can be a rich and full-bodied experience. If there’s one winemaker who can deliver that promise, it’s Geoff Merrill. Since 1980, he has been making award-winning wines of balance. This is bells and whistles Chardonnay that really needs food to counter it’s rounded flavour and generous mouthfeel. It’s complex with stone fruit and citrus with an expansive palate that is balanced and long. This is top tier Chardonnay with an inexpensive price tag.

Winemaker's Notes

The colour is a brilliant youthful straw with tinges of green.

The aroma shows fresh cream, fruit salad, lemon and lime with a hint of pineapple. The oak is subtle but still displays nice toast and cashew notes.

The palate is full and balanced with complex citrus fruit flavours, some fine floral characters and creamy mid palate with integrated oak flavours. The finish is clean and zesty, welcoming a wide range of food pairing options.

Wonderful nose - long and complex with some funky overtones. Soft and creamy in the mouth with a melange of biscuity, oaky, fruity flavours. The palate has style and length. Drink now.

Glowing yellow-green; a fully mature blend of McLaren Vale (73%)/Coonawarra (27%); has abundant toasty flavour balanced and lengthened by good acidity. Good value for a wine ready and rearing to go

Has that unmistakable aroma and taste of cork (similar to oak, and not a fault per se); has hung in well, aided by good acidity.

Lovely intensity of honeyed apricot aromas. Palate still tight for its age. Stone-fruit characters are balanced by the oak.

A power-packed wine revelling in the cool vintage; layered melon, honey and citrus; emphatic finish.

Light to medium green-yellow; there are fresh and lively citrus and stone fruit aromas followed by a wine with considerable elegance, and which is ageing particularly well. Citrus and melon fruit is beautifully balanced with sensitive oak. A wine which should have been on the market in 1998, rather than the '92 vintage.
