cracka review

If you are looking for something a little more medium-bodied to go with something like lamb ragu for tonight's dinner, look no further than this sexy Italian home grown here in Oz. It's quite a juicy number, with smells of ripe red berries, black cherries and earthy, licorice spices on the nose, whilst the palate is elegant and darkly fruited, with a solid line of fine tannins, a hint of mint and a long fruit and savoury finish that will leave you wanting more. It's well-priced and worth the punt!

winemaker's notes

Story: Montepulciano is likely to have originated in Tuscany and is now widely planted throughout central and southern Italy. It’s one of the dominant grape varieties in the Abruzzo region in central / eastern Italy and produces medium-bodied wines that are deep in colour with rich tannins and savoury flavours.

Vintage: 2014 was a challenging vintage, but it was very interesting to see the vines’ methodical reactions to make use of whatever was thrown at them. We were lucky with the timing of the heat and rain - the grapes were still early enough in their ripening cycle to not be hugely affected by the heat and then the rain in mid-February provided a well-earned reprieve.

Nose: The Hand Crafted Montepulciano exhibits aromas of blackberries, plums and black cherries, followed by hints of chocolate.

Palate: The palate offers black cherries, boysenberries and plums, which is complemented by great acidity.

Pairing: This wine goes really well with Italian style lamb with a herbed couscous.

Cellaring: Drink now or to 2024.
