    cracka review

From ex-Grange winemaker John Duval, comes this elegant and juicy SGM. Scents of raspberries, dark cherries and deli meats rise appealingly out of the glass, before the palate chimes in with red and black berry tastes, a lick of toast, chalky tannins and a dry, savoury-edged finish. This man doesn't know how to make a bad wine!

    expert reviews

    James Halliday (2014 Vintage) says
A 47/32/21% blend drawn from old vineyards in a number of districts, Krondorf the one constant, fermented with submerged cap (header boards), matured in French hogsheads (10% new). As is appropriate, complex, but largely fruit-driven, with red cherries/berries and plums to the fore, oak and (particularly) tannins taking a back seat.

    Gary Walsh (2014 Vintage) says
Rich, dark and spicy with chocolate nougat and subtle floral notes. Medium bodied, savoury, spicy, fruity and fleshy all at once, textured grainy tannin, balanced acidity, blackberry with some red fruited freshness on a long finish. Feels almost minerally. Tastes great.
    2016 - 2024
    Tyson Stelzer (2014 Vintage) says
Glossy, tangy, sumptuous dark berry fruits form an enticing core supported by impressively gauged dark chocolate oak, finely structured, beautifully polished tannins and well integrated acidity. It lingers long with even line. An impressive vintage for Plexus.

    winemaker's notes

My aim with Plexus is express the wide spectrum of red fruit flavours from Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre and also provide structure with a seamless balance and long finish.

Traditional, low intervention winemaking techniques are employed with Plexus, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth, but also have medium term cellaring potential for 8-10 years.

    Variety: Shiraz 47%, Grenache 32%, Mourvedre 21%.
The Shiraz was sourced from old vineyards in the Krondorf, Marananga and Ebenezer regions, Grenache from the Tanunda and Krondorf regions and Mourvèdre from the Light Pass and Krondorf regions.

Winemaking: Fermentation with submerged cap and small open stainless steel fermenters.

Oak Maturation: 100% barrel maturated for 14 months, with just 10% new fine grain French oak hogsheads (300 litre barrels); with the balance 3-6 year old barrels.

    Colour: Vibrant purple red.

Nose: Attractive ripe red and black fruit complemented by savoury, spicy notes.

Palate: Generous with good intensity of bright, plush blackberry fruit and Christmas cake character. Appealing texture with soft tannin backbone.

    Alc/vol: 14.5%
