Vermentino and fiano, fermented on skins in clay amphoras. Alternative winemaking hits the mainstream. Sweetish mid-palate but chalky, slatey mouthfeel fosters an impression of dryness. Feels strict and controlled. Works beautifully alongside shellfish.
Campbell Mattinson (2014 Vintage) says
Blend of vermentino and fiano. 20% fermented on skins (and kept on skins for eight weeks) in clay amphora. Good wine. Better than the inaugural 2013 release. Feels free and wild in one sense but strict and disciplined in another; shows slatey fruit flavour but is also textural and contained. Lots to like here, particularly at the dinner table.
