2014 Martinborough Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

In the search for the purest examples of Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc we came across this vibrant drop from the Martinborough Vineyard that sums up everything we love about this grape style when it’s made well. It’s quite a workout for the nose with lifted aromatics of passionfruit and guava and subtle hints of vanilla. The palate shows excellent fruit power and purity as well as a creamy texture from barrel fermentation. It finishes long and harmonious.

Winemaker's Notes

Aromas of tropical fruit such as guava with vanilla notes on the nose. On the palate the ripe fruit characters and natural vibrancy of Sauvignon Blanc are beautifully balanced against creamy notes from the barrel fermentation creating a harmonious and balanced wine with great length and texture.

Food Match: Shellfish, chicken & fish.

Tyson Stelzer (2012 Vintage) says
Intricate craftsmanship is on display here, upholding a fragrant delicacy of wonderfully aromatic jasmine, guava and pink grapefruit long into the finish. A gracefully poised palate is built around taut lemon zest fruit, zippy acidity and gravel-infused texture, reinforced by a one-fifth portion of barrel fermentation. A wine of considerable persistence, textural presence and energetic acidity.

Moderately pungent aroma with evidence of oak and nutty lees as well as fruit. Great palate with weight and a creamy texture. Quite complex, with minera, tree fruit and toast flavours. A classy wine with lots to offer.

Michael Cooper (1998 Vintage) says
This fresh, dry wine is typically ripe and vibrantly fruity, with passionfruit and pineapple-evoking aromas and flavours and fresh, lively acidity. The 1998 vintage is made from "exceptionally ripe" fruit. An unwooded style, with 5 per cent Semillon in the blend, it is less concentrated than the 1997 but shows good weight and depth of crisp, ripe tropical fruit flavours.
