2014 Moppity Vineyards Lock & Key Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Not so long ago, many people had not heard of the Hilltops as a region, they’d not heard of Moppity either. The combination of this emerging region and emerging producer is a potent mix. If you love Cabernet and have a Sunday lunch planned with a leg of lamb this should be your go-to wine. This is concentrated stuff with a core of cassis, plum and chocolate. Textbook Cabernet tannins keep it structured and firm.

Winemaker's Notes

An intense and concentrated Cabernet with plenty of cassis, plum and dark chocolate flavour, laced with cedary oak. The fine-grained tannins provide structure on the finish and potential for improvement in the cellar.

2014 Moppity Vineyards Lock & Key Cabernet Sauvignon

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2014 Vintage) says
Excellent, deep crimson-purple colour; a very high quality second-tier wine typical of Moppity Vineyards and its exceptional vineyard in Hilltops. Intense blackcurrant and black olive fruit is given additional context by its fine web of ripe, balanced tannins. Top fruit, top winemaking.

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
Block 17, yield 6.25t/ha, 4-day cold soak, cool ferment; matured in used French barriques for 13 months; gold medal NSW Wine Awards '14. Excellent crimson-purple; classic cassis varietal character is the driver, although tannins and oak lend carefully judged support. A really attractive wine. 1480 dozen made.
