2014 Morgan's Reserve Shiraz Adelaide Hills Shiraz
"The Morgan's is back... The Morgan's is back!
The cries could be heard throughout the Cracka Office as the samples were unloaded off the truck. Its not hard to see why we were so excited. Striking a perfect balance of sweet supple fruit and rich chocolatey tannins, this more elegant expression of shiraz is sure to put a smile on dial and have you reaching for a second (or third) glass.
Harvested when there was a balance between ripeness and acidity, the wine was fermented, using a Rhone yeast strain, which accentuates, spice in Shiraz. Fermented at 23 -25 deg C, this allowed riper, soft tannins, to be extracted, over the course of 14 days. Using mostly French oak, and a small amount of American oak, the wine was matured over 15 months. Lightly fined, with skim milk, the wine was filtered and bottled, with great potential for aging.
Appearance: Vibrant ruby red
Nose: A rich and spicy nose with blueberry and dense black cherry fruits. White pepper, subtle aniseed and vanilla spices are complimented by dark chocolate and charry characters from oak maturation.
Palate: A great fruit concentration of juicy ripe black fruits and mixed berries are balanced by a smooth and soft structural tannin. The oak maturation has provided a sweet chocolatey note along with hints of nuts and toast. A spicy, white pepper finish.
Food: Rack of Lamb, with beetroot salad, and sweet potato mash.
