Two things that immediately hit you about this wine. First is the unbelievable gargantuan size of the bottle, its an old school Italian red wine bottle, with an enormous punt.
The next thing is the quality of the stuff inside- it is simply amazing. The nose screams deep dark berries, and you can pick up the intensity of the oak, even on the nose. The palate has strong red fruit flavours, a little mocha and some tobacco leaf. Stunning French oak has been sublimely imparted on to the premium quality fruit, to create a wine of great length and structure. Its solid, be prepared, but the longer you leave it in the glass, the greater reward you will receive.
This will last till your newborn grandchildren are at uni..
Selected from the wineries own vineyards in McLaren Flat. The soil is deep sand to sandy loam over clay. Very gentle north westerly aspect with East West row orientation allows more delicate characteristics to develop. Characteristics common to the sub region include blueberry fruit, some red fruit, plums and a subtle violet lift with elegant tannins.
