Cracka Review

This offering from Oakridge certainly makes for awesome mid-week drinking with lasagne. Aromas of cassis, crushed leaves, chocolate and cinnamon decorate the subtle nose, whilst the palate is medium-bodied and elegant, with slinky tannins, bright acidity, and a red fruited, earthy finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Description: Dark purple red in colour. Classic Cabernet nose of blackcurrant, redcurrants and subtle leaf nuance. Time reveals cedar and polished wood plus violet like florals. The palate is medium-bodied and savoury with blue and black fruits laced through fine emery-like tannins. The balanced acidity adds length, line and pleasing sense of refreshment that makes you return for more.

Winemaking Notes: A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine – fermentation on skins with twice daily pump-overs for three weeks followed by a 17 month maturation in 225 litre French oak barrels.

Growing Conditions: Yarra Valley has three distinct geographic zones or sub-regions - lower warmer, middle cool and higher cooler sub-regions. We have matched particular varieties with the specific sites to give you outstanding examples of single vineyard wines.

Selection: This wine was sourced from the north facing Oakridge vineyard sited in the grey alluvial loams of Coldstream.

Vintage: A cold and windy spring resulted in poor flowering and very low crops. Ripening conditions were ideal – long and slow, resulting in wines with outstanding purity and balance.

Alc/vol: 13.7%

Expert Reviews

Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
Elegant and deeply flavoured, with genuine depth, balance and structure. Its smoky fragrance of cassis, mulberries, small red berries and fresh vanilla oak reveals undertones of briar and dried herbs. Full to medium-bodied, its smooth, supple palate of bright, juicy small berry fruit knits seamlessly with cedar/vanilla oak and grainy spine of loose-knit tannin, finishing long and lively, with a bright acidity.
