2014 Parnasse Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here's a savvy that is light, bright and fruity, and made to drink young with your mates on a warm evening whilst tucking into some fish and chips. It's at the riper end of the scale, and shows gooseberries, passionfruit and lemons on the nose, that follows through to the palate flavours. It's all wrapped up in racy acidity leading to a dry, decent finish. Good value for the contents of the bottle.

Winemaker's Notes

Light yellow in colour with bright green highlights. An aromatic nose highlights fruit-driven aromas of passionfruit, tropical fruit and subtle notes of cut grass. The palate has excellent purity with fresh citrus and tropical fruit flavours matched by soft mineral acidity. Enjoy this wine well chilled with seafood and lightly flavoured dishes.

A very fast and precise vinification to avoid oxygen and maximise fruit expression and aromatics. A very cool fermentation (15 to 18 degrees) is undertaken in stainless steel tanks before maturation on lees in tank for three months to build depth and texture. Malolactic fermentation is prevented to ensure natural, crisp varietal character.

Whilst perhaps not as extreme as in Spain, the 2013 vintage will be remembered for being incredibly late. After years of partial drought, a wet winter and early Spring replenished the soils but delayed flowering. A moderate summer kept ripening three weeks behind the average. In the final weeks, warm conditions and consistent dry winds ensured a consistent harvest.
