Cracka Review

The team behind Sons of Eden are serious stars in the making and if they aren’t one of the hottest Barossa names in a decades’ time, then I will eat my hat. But seriously, young guns with serious intent is what we love here at Cracka and these guys have it in spades.

The Remus Shiraz comes from grand Eden Valley vineyards, matured in French Oak and is my favourite from the SOE range with its beautifully poised spicy, dark fruit flavours with creamy oak. Far from a blockbuster, it is a restrained Barossa Shiraz and a beautiful one at that.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep inky purple in colour with crimson hues, this wine displays redcurrant and blackberry notes together with complex spicy aromas. On the palate layers of wild berry fruit character with nuances of dried herb contribute to great complexity. Long fine velvety tannins and a core strength of flavour persists through the length of the palate.

Expert Reviews

James Suckling (2015 Vintage) says
Superb. Smells really fresh and lively with raspberry and red plum fruits as well as eastern spices, granite, quartz, pepper, gently meaty and fragrant notes. Dense palate and smoothly rendered tannins that are bathed in deeply ripe, attractive plum and blackberry fruits.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
A complex, luscious wine that shows its 22-month maturation in mainly new French oak; the fruit flavours are in a black cherry and spice spectrum, the tannins plentiful but ripe, reflecting the minimal fining.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
From two low-yielding vineyards with vines over 50 years old. Deep but vivid purple-crimson; given Rolls Royce treatment in the winery, including 22 months in predominantly new French oak hogsheads. A perfectly balanced medium- to full-bodied wine, with delicious dark cherry and spice aromas and flavours, the palate finishing with fine, lingering tannins. 250 dozen made.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Deep in colour, and simply loaded with dark fruits at the riper end of the spectrum; fruitcake, ginger, roasted meat and blackberry coulis are all evident, and while the wine is warm at 14.5%, there remains a lightness to the finish; still big end of town stuff, but done well.
