2014 Stonier Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

We love the wines of the Mornington Peninsula and think that Stonier are one of the greats in the region. They specialise in Chardonnay and Pinot so it was only a matter of time before they combined the two varieties and made a Sparkling style. The 2007 has already spent two years in bottle gaining complexity so on first pour you’ll be rewarded by the essence of lemon meringue pie and some toasted bread aromas. The palate delivers Pinot flavours with strawberry and the citrus and acid profile of Chardonnay with lime and lemon notes. It finishes creamy, crisp and long.

Rob Geddes MW (2008 Vintage) says
Tight bright and pristine finesse here in 2008. Complex subtle fruit with and toasty complexity with good creaminess and a long zesty mineral acidity to complete the palate. Subtle creme brulee in the long chardonnay derived acidity in the complex finish

Pale, vibrant hue;attractive lemon biscuit bouquet, with a touch of creamy lees complexity; the palate is tight, fine, linear and just a little chalky; very dry on the finish

Typical very pure and lancing fruit line; uncompromisingly low dosage; 18 months on yeast lees. The hotter the day, the better the wine (provided, of course, that it's fully chilled).

Fine, elegant and crisp with citrus and strawberry echoes; a clean, bright, dry finish. Spends a minimum of 18 months on lees.

Quality sparkling wine; tangy, lively grapefruit/stone fruit mix; fresh acidity on a long finish.

Stone fruit and melon; good length, but not complex; may develop under cork.
