Cracka Review

The Black Chook range continues to offer superb drinking at the price and this Shiraz from the McLaren Vale is just what you’ve come to expect from the region. It’s made by Ben Riggs who is well versed when it comes to Shiraz from this part of the world and a man who always turns out excellent interpretations of Shiraz. This version is blended with Viognier so expect lifted aromatics of apricot and spice before a smooth palate of intense Shiraz fruit.

Winemaker's Notes


The Shiraz grapes are co-fermented with a small amount of viognier skins which adds a vibrant perfumed aroma and at the same time intensifies the deep rich colour and supple tannins.


A seductive nose of bright red berry and mulberry fruits with hints of blueberry, black pepper and oak spice.


The palate is generous, full of rich black fruits, vanilla, anise and sweet spice. A long lingering finish of delightfully soft Shiraz but not without the punch.
