2014 Unlabelled Mystery Spanish Tempranillo

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Sourced from 25 year old dry grown bush vines in the rolling plains of Castilla la Mancha, this juicy Tempranillo is packed full of dark berry flavours. Backed up with some silky smooth tannins, this is truly a wine worthy of a label, luckily for us the winery forgot to label a few cases, so we were able to snag a massive bargain.

Winemaker's Notes

Winemaking:

Totally de-stemmed with a short cold soak before a long, cool fermentation with daily pump-overs to achieve optimum fruit and colour. The core of the blend was aged in stainless steel with alternative oak whilst a component of up to twenty percent spent three months maturation in seasoned French and American oak.

Vintage 2014:

Castilla la Mancha had an excellent 2014 vintage, with the prevailing cooler, wetter season suiting the warm, arid slopes of Manchuela. The small crops of the old bush vines were able to ripen slowly and produce intensively flavoured and well balanced fruit.

Tasting Note:

The nose displays primary fruit aromas of dark berry and plum matched by secondary notes of smoky spice and forest undergrowth. The palate is medium bodied and unforced with ripe red berried fruits, roasted nuts and varietal cherry cola. The tannins are fine and slick on the impressively dry and structured finish.
