Brilliant red. A lively, spice-tinged nose displays zesty red berry and floral scents, along with hints of succulent herbs and white pepper. Taut red currant and strawberry flavors open up and deepen slowly with air, showing very good clarity and picking up a sweet lavender pastille quality. Shows appealing finesse and nerve, with no rough edges, and finishes on a resonating floral note with sneaky, harmonious tannins
Vieux Télégraphe’s second-label Châteauneuf-du-Pape red, made with the grapes of young vines under 30 years old, plus older parcels not located on the Plateaux of La Crau or Piedlong.
Grape Varieties: Grenache 80%, Syrah 10%, Mourvèdre 6% and Cinsault 4%.
Vinification: Grapes are hand-picked, with double sorting at the vine, then a third sorting in the winery. They are de-stemmed, followed by 25-30 days’ traditional fermentation in temperature controlled vats. Pneumatic pressing, then systematic malolactic fermentation.
Maturation: In vats for 10 months, then in French oak foudres (30 hl) for about 7 months. Bottled at 15-16 months, released at 18 months.
Personality and Ageing: A Châteauneufdu-Pape seriously dominated by Grenache, which confers very singular suppleness and roundness. Best savoured young.
Serving Temperature: 17°C.
