Cracka Review

Magical Merlot with a soft, seductive body. Lashings of dark fruit and even a little bit of Margaret River style thrown into the equation. Looking for something without the kick of Shiraz or Cabernet, then this Merlot is your man.

Winemaker's Notes

This medium body Merlot has been produced using premium grapes from the Margaret River region.

The wine exhibits the classic varietal Merlot aromas of dark plums, herbs and chocolate. On the palate, notes of bay leaves, vanilla and mocha are completed by a soft round texture finishing with fine velvety tannins.

This wine can be enjoyed now or with cellaring will mature for 4 to 5 years.

Alc/vol: 14.5%

2014 Watershed Shades Merlot

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Fragrant bouquet, dominated by a slight herbal edge to the red fruit; medium-bodied, a little boney and lacking generosity.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Light crimson; appealing red fruits on the bouquet, the palate enriched with fine tannins running through its length; good example of merlot.

Ray Jordan (2007 Vintage) says
Tidy and controlled Merlot of medium-weight. The fruit is held with a combination of slightly assertive fine tannins and a little understated cedary oak. It's created a seamless elegant wine. Nice drinking over the next couple of years.

Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (2007 Vintage) says
Watershed isn't one of the best known regional producers, but it makes a lot of wines, most of which are of good quality. Handy quaffer. The flavours are of mulberries, mint, five-spice and (twiggy) bay leaves and, while we'd be the first to admit that that doesn't sound appealing, when you drink it, there's enough sweet ripeness to make it enjoyable. Strict price-based buying, but not a bad drink.
