2014 Wild Rock Sur Lie Pinot Gris

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Wild Rock are seen as the cool dudes of Hawkes Bay, but they dip their toe into Marlborough waters with this more off-dry style of Pinot Gris. Appealing scents of nashi pears, green apples and fresh ginger spice leap out of the glass, then the palate kicks in with a touch of sweetness upfront that leads to red apple flavours, a subtle creamy mouthfeel, and a decent, smooth finish with some appley acidity punching through to clean up the finish. Ideal with spicy dishes.

Expert Reviews

WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Fresh, lighter, pear-driven style with slippery mouthfeel. Basic but nice.

Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
From a Craggy Range subsidiary, the instantly attractive 2009 vintage was grown in the Waitaki Valley and Bendigo. Mostly handled in tanks, but 5 per cent French oak-matured, it is fleshy and creamy, deliciously scented and smooth, with slight sweetness (5.2 grams/litre of residual sugar) and ripe stone-fruit flavours, showing good richness and harmony.
