2014 Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Shiraz Cabernet Petit Verdot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Adorned with a schmicky new label of a row boat skimming over the top of a sea of vines under a blue sky, it could a suggestion of an occasion to drink this wine. Just imagine sitting in a boat chucking out a fishing line waiting for the fish to bite with a glass of this Scrubby Rise red in your hand. There's an ocean of red, black and cherry fruits on the nose, together with some toasty oak. A wave of juicy fruits crash over the palate, coupled with gentle tannins, refreshing acidity and a dry finish.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
One assumes the small boat being rowed along the top of a vine row does not indicate a macabre sense of humour, for this is another success for the vintage, with sweet red and black fruits embedded in the chocolate running through the length of the palate. Adelicious wine for early drinking.

Scrubby Rise Red is a blend of shiraz with cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. It's a reliable performer. Made to drink as a young wine. Indeed it's a great red to wrap your lips around. It's full of jammy, blackberried flavour but it's the dusty, earthen, spicy notes that send the slurpability score soaring. There's a modest amount of tannin grip and a sweet, Turkish delight-like flavour rippling through the aftertaste. You can't ask for much more. It's a little beauty.

As usual, over-delivers expectations with its multifaceted aromas and flavours, the tannins tamed by clever winemaking to allow the blackberry/mulberry/raspberry fruits free reign.

Wirra delivers this reliably each year with bright ripe berry fruits and plenty to draw you in, attractive, straightforward and with a bit of fragrant lift. The palate's bursting with ripe plum and berry fruits, soft tannins and a clean exit.

A lively, medium-bodied palate with a generous mix of blackberry, blackcurrant arid cherry, the tannins and oak spot-on.

It's the lowest priced red in the Wirra Wirra range but the value is better than good. It's a blend of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. 2006 RELEASE The good thing about this is that it's full-bodied - I like medium-bodied wine but it's great to have a full monty option at an affordable price. It tastes of ground coffee, deli meats, blackberry jam and plums, and it keeps itself fresh and nice right to the bottom of the bottle. DRINK 2008-2011.

Deep purple colour; saturated with dark berry fruits, although needs a touch more structure on the finish. Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon/Petit Verdot.
