2014 Zilzie Regional Barossa Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Zilzie might own over 1200 acres of prime vineyards near the Murray Darling, but that does not stop them heading to other regions to source authenticity. In this tasty incarnation they have jumped on the best Barossa fruit to create a wine that is an excellent rendition of the style. It’s a mouthful of black fruit and plum, chocolate and vanilla, before soft, juicy tannins ensure a long, lively finish. This lush, full-bodied red is just the thing when eating ribs.

2014 Zilzie Regional Barossa Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Good hue, though relatively light; how the back label could describe the wine as full-bodied is beyond me; it is in fact light-bodied, but with elegance and harmony, its red berry fruits with a whisker of oak spice and fine tannins.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Deep colour; the bouquet is loaded with sweet black fruits, offering a notable pastille-like edge; the palate is dense, juicy and generous, with fruitcake, chocolate and chewy tannins.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Clear crimson hue; an elegant and lively wine, throwing down the gauntlet to the 15% alcohol Barossa Valley shirazs that have proliferated in recent years; the fragrant bouquet of plums and a hint of spice, or perhaps licorice, is followed by a palate that is well-balanced and long. Exceptional value.
Australian Wine Companion 2012 2011
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Deep crimson-purple; a generous medium- to full-bodied shiraz with an abundance of plummy black fruits, and avoids any dead fruit characters. Top value.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
A particularly well put-together wine given the vintage and its Riverland provenance; modest alcohol has not thinned the wine, nor led to any green notes.Value
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
A glorious bouquet, very complex and lively; a fine, intense and silky mid-palate flows through to a very long finish. Gold, National Wine Show '07.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Medium-bodied, driven by abundant black cherry and blackberry fruit; minimal oak; soft tannins, supple mouthfeel.
