We often talk of the triumphant trio in wine where the producer, region and variety combine to bring you the best. Here’s a classy example of the Hunter Valley, Semillon and Brokenwood creating a magnificent threesome. As a young wine it shows aromas of lemon and straw before a sweet fruit palate of lime and apple and an excellent acid structure ensuring it will last for years. This will of course develop after 5 years and become like honey on toast.

Winemaker's Notes

The cool year has resulted in more grass/hay fruit characters. The colour is perfect, lots of luminous green tints. There are citrus notes to the aromas as well. Lighter, fresh lime and lemongrass flavours on release as a young wine. Great acidity, and the 10.5% alcohol is perfect for summer drinking.

In extreme youth, lime blossom and pink grapefruit highlight a pretty bouquet. The palate is taut, honed and persistent, with a linear acid spine, tightly coiled structure and slaty texture. Great now, and short-term potential.

If practice ever made perfect, surely it is with this wine, made to be enjoyed young, but still able to repay medium-term cellaring. Pale quartz; the bouquet is clean and pure, with cut grass and apple/citrus aromas, the palate fresh and lively, building impact on the back-palate and finish, yet doing so with delicate, rather than phenolic, flavours.

More traditional and regional than previous vintages, which have been more grassy and aromatic.
