Great name for a New Zealand pinot noir - and it tastes excellent too. Oh yes, this is one to grab. It has fruit power and tannin structure, and enough grainy, sappy, spicy complexity to keep you interested but, at heart, just a good hit of cherried flavour. Both charming and persistent. And isn't it great to see a New Zealand pinot land on our shores at a decent price. Drink with chargrilled quail (or, better still, kiwi). The Big Red Wine Book 2009/10 2009
Maturation: 100% oak maturation, 5% new French oak.
Appearance: Dark garnet red.
Aroma: An alluring amalgam of raspberry, cherry and strawberry fruits with hints of spice and savoury tones.
Palate: Medium-bodied, the palate is silken and seductive with cherry and raspberry flavours to the fore, and undertones of savoury dried spices and earth. Gentle tannins and a fine acid framework ensure these flavours persist on the palate.
Food matching: A great match with classic Italian pizza or meaty pasta dishes, but also pairs well with more serious spring lamb and duck featured meals.
