Cracka Review

This Trans-Tasman wine affair between the Marris and De Bortoli families is pretty typical of most Marlborough Savvies, but with the passionfruit volume turned down a touch, which makes for a pleasant change. Aromas of the aforementioned passionfruits are joined by smells of lemons and subtle grassiness, then the palate kicks in with juicy lemony flavours, scrunchy acidity, and a thirst-quenching, zesty finish. Just the thing for tempura prawns and veggies.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Very pale yellow – gold with bright green highlights.

Bouquet: Saturated aromas of snow pea, lime juice and pink grapefruit dominate the subtler elements of dried herb and Waihopai riverstone.

Palate: The palate is all about bold lemon – lime citrus with a solid core of vibrant greens whilst a fresh streak of acidity combined with a hint of minerality ensures the finish is long, crisp and refreshing.

Vintage conditions: A very cool start to the growing season meant early vine development wasn’t quite as vigorous as the previous few years but a warm, dry November put this right. A noticeable drop in temperature and 10mm of rain was to coincide with the critical stages of flowering and fruit set and goes some way to explain the lighter than usual 2015 Sauvignon yields. By Christmas the weather had begun to warm up again and we hit a sustained purple patch of weather that lasted through to early March. After a brief period of much welcomed rain the grape intake took place in cool, dry conditions.

Winemaking: The grapes were harvested, then processed in our state of the art winery situated in the heart of our Waihopai Valley Vineyard. Individual blocks were fermented at cool temperatures (12–15C) in stainless steel tanks, to preserve aromatic intensity and fruit purity. This wine was blended from select parcels from a number of different blocks to add layers of complexity and interest to the pristine fruit characters.

Cellaring: Will cellar for two to three years but is best enjoyed whilst young.

Food match: These lighter style whites have a touch of zest and herbaceous characters, they match well with:
Cooked seafood - seafood pastas and salads; grilled prawns; fish and chips; scallops
Vegetables - roast pumpkin with goats cheese; stuffed capsicum; vegetarian pastas
