2015 De Bortoli La Boheme Act Three Pinot Gris and Friends

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This blend of Pinot Gris and friends is a more medium-bodied, aromatic, fruity wine that shows smells of pears, musksticks and citrus on the nose, whilst the plate is fleshy and more-ish, with soft fruit flavours, gentle acidity and a rounded, smooth mouthfeel that would satisfy even the fussiest wine drinker. It's an all-round crowd pleaser!

Winemaker's Notes

2015 was a mild season with good early rain, but quite dry from mid January to harvest. A terrific season for Pinot Gris and the other aromatic varieties. Fruit ripened in the cool of March. Hand picked and gently pressed. Fermented in both tank and cask. Four weeks on lees post fermentation for additional creaminess, complexity and aromatics. Gentle handling and minimal filtration.

Appearance: Vibrant straw colour with green edges

Bouquet: Faintly aromatic with classic, perfumed Pinot Gris characters of pear, orange blossom and honeysuckle

Palate: Refined, dry structural palate with green apple and mandarin. Textural, gently aromatic, soft acidity

Cellaring: Enjoy now or keep for two to three years in a good cellar

Food match: These lighter style whites have a touch of zest and herbaceous characters, they match well with:
Cooked seafood - seafood pastas and salads; grilled prawns; fish and chips; scallops
Vegetables - roast pumpkin with goats cheese; stuffed capsicum; vegetarian pastas

Variety: Pinot Gris 90%, Gewurztraminer 5%, Pinot Blanc 3%, Riesling 2%

Additional information: Suitable for vegans & vegetarians

Alc/vol: 12.4%

Expert Reviews

Campbell Mattinson (2015 Vintage) says
Pinot Gris with help from some other white grape varieties. This is good. Dry. Textural. Almost slatey. But not lacking in fruit. And appreciably perfumed. Green apple, nectarine, spice, a snap of twig. Both exuberant and refreshing.
Ken Gargett (2010 Vintage) says
"From Yarra, 90 per cent gris with riesling and gewurztraminer among the 'friends'. Attractive aromatics, blossoming florals."
Tyson Stelzer (2010 Vintage) says
Drop dead gorgeous, laid-back charm, inimitably cool - and that's just the label! Inside, the texture and restraint will immediately transport you to the Latin quarter of 1880s Paris!
