2015 De Bortoli Sacred Hill Moscato

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Now, here's a crowd pleaser if ever you saw one! It's a light-bodied sweet style that is low in alcohol (8%) so that has to be good news. Aromas of grapes and musky florals rise from the glass, whilst the palate is juicy citrus, a slight spritz on the tongue, and a sweet, grapey finish. It will go down well at a mass gathering, and will have you reaching for a second glass.

Winemaker's Notes

Fruit was sourced from vineyards that were well protected from the harsh sun and which displayed the intensity required for this style of wine. Blend of White Frontignac & Muscat Gordo Blanco. The fruit was picked and pressed cold, in new state of the art bag presses. Juice was left to settle naturally and then racked clean. The wine was fermented cold to retain fresh fruit characters. Fermentation was stopped once a balance was reached between alcohol, sweetness, acidity and bubbles.

Appearance: Pale straw in colour with a lively green tinge

Bouquet: The nose displays freshly crushed grapes, with a little musk and a hint of lime juice

Palate: The palate is lively and fresh as one would expect from a frizzante style wine. The palate tastes of freshly crushed grapes with just a squeeze of lemon & ginger on the finish.

Cellaring: Best while young and fresh, but will cellar for many years

Food match: This fruit driven style matches well with:
Creamy desserts - panacotta; trifle
Fruity desserts - poached pears and mascarpone cream; lemon tart
Rich chocolate - chocolate mousse with strawberries

Alc/vol: 8.0%

Expert Reviews

WINESTATE (2011 Vintage) says
Lemon-scented nose with lifted florals, and quite lengthy lime sherbet palate.
WINESTATE Volume 34 (2011) 2011
Tyson Stelzer (2011 Vintage) says
This wine makes it difficult to justify spending more than $7.50 on moscato. Fresh lemon, lime and red apples with a sweet sugar cane finish. Chill it to sub-zero.
