2015 Elderton Golden Semillon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This year's wine looks as good as you'd want it to look with ultra rich glace fruit favours and a truly unctuous texture. Thick, rich, full bodied and yet with quite a deal of acidity, this is pretty tasty stuff.

Winemaker's Notes

Style: Dessert, medium bodied

Colour: Luminescent straw

Aroma: Dried pear, apricots and figs

Palate: Dried pear and apricot marmalade with balancing acid finish

Alc/vol: 10.5%

2015 Elderton Golden Semillon

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Glowing green-gold; it’s ironic that Elderton’s first vintage should come from a vineyard near Greenock that it purchased in ‘10, mainly for its Shiraz, with plantings dating back to 1915. The wine has masses of juicy cumquat and mandarin flavours, but the rate of colour development suggests it should be enjoyed sooner rather than later, something that will not give too many problems to those who have in fact tasted it.

Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
A darker colour here, some orange peel and cumquat, bergamot and Earl Grey tea, really striking and concentrated aromas here, marmalade too. The palate s glossy, round, soft and smooth, delivering rich, creamy apricot and cumquat marmalade flavour, dense, viscous texture, terrific balance, really seductive.
