Cracka Review

OK, so it wasn't made by leaving the grapes on the vine in the snow, but this is as close as we are going to get here in Aussieland, and this one is a little beauty! Orange and lime marmalade smells leap out of the glass, together with stone fruits and honeysuckle. The palate is sweet and rich, with more candied citrus and pineapple cube flavours, and a bright, non-cloying finish which is a lovely surprise. Excellent with fruity desserts!

Winemaker's Notes

Dessert in a glass! This ‘iced’ Riesling is made by freeze concentrating freshly pressed grape juice, giving a flavour intensity that is out of this world. Mandarin aromas gel with subtle sweet honey and apple flavours. It’s tropical, crispy and the flavours go on and on. Pair it with lemon curd tarts or a selection of delicious Tasmanian cheeses.

Huon Hooke (2016 Vintage) says
Bright, light yellow hue; lovely floral aromas, honey and lemon citrus. Nice wine. Lovely palate with freshness and drive.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Gleaming green-gold; an outstanding example of the style, with an awesome 153g/1 residual sugar balanced by 11.8g/1 of total acidity; the intensity of flavor, and its extreme length, have more in common with the sweetest (trockenbeerenauslese style) wines of Austria and Germany than with any other Australian wine.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Andrew Hood pioneered tank-frozen Iced Rieslings in Tasmania and passed his knowledge on to the Frogmore Creek wine crew. This has classic lime juice, on a potent and long palate, with very good balancing acidity.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Skilfully made, reflecting much experience; tangy lime juice flavours, the juicy sweetness of the mid-palate countered on the finish by acidity; as yet, not particularly complex.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Bold and luscious, the mouthfeel softened by comparatively low acidity.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Very flavoursome and rich, with peachy fruit typical of the vintage.
