2015 Frogmore Creek Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Frogmore creek are doing epic things with riesling, so now is the time to  discover their wines before the whole world finds out about them! It's highly fragrant on the nose, with intoxicating floral and citrus smells, then the light-bodied, dry palate kicks in with juicy citrus flavours, a touch of herbs, and a super-crunchy, long finish. It will benefit from some cellar time, but give it a good chill and it will be good to go with some tempura prawns.

Winemaker's Notes

Vineyards: Frogmore Creek Riesling is sourced from vines grown in their family owned Vineyard at Penna, Southern Tasmanian.

Tasting notes: Subtle lime and floral aromas with lively citrus and mineral flavours. Juicy cool climate acid fills the mouth and lingers.

Food matching suggestions: Goes well with tuna sashimi or seared Tasmanian scallops with cognac.

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2013 Vintage) says
A fragrant and floral riesling that captures the tension of southern Tasmania in high-wire acidity. Notes of lemon blossom, mandarin and kaffir lime linger very long and tense amidst enticing notes of pine nettles. Give it time for acidity to soften.

Jeremy Oliver (2012 Vintage) says
Finely textured, this lean and focused riesling has a mineral presence of lime juice and lemon zest backed by delicate notes of green apples and garden mint. Its chalky bouquet is fresh and floral, white its long, rather taut palate of slightly candied fruit finishes with length, crispness and a bathpowdery minerality plus a finely balanced residual sweetness.

Bright, light green-gold; the aromatic bouquet has a sunburst of lime, lemon and grapefruit, the palate treading in its steps, but also with some acid restraint that will serve it well over the decade.

Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
A lovely, fresh and composed riesling that has plenty of citrus, floral perfume and some white flesh stone fruits on offer; really enticing. The palate has terrific acid crunch, with candied green apple and lime fruit flavours, crystalline purity, clean and upbeat.

Jeremy Oliver (2011 Vintage) says
Sculpted, shapely and almost outrageously acidic, with a fresh, estery bouquet of lemon rind, pear and apple, this concentrated, chalky and austere young riesling pushes the limits of acid balance. Long and elegant, it's bracingly and assertively wrapped in rapier-like acidity, finishing with a citrusy crunchiness. Give it plenty of time and your teeth will thank you!
