2015 Josef Chromy Botrytis Riesling (375ml)

Cracka Value Rating

Cracka Review

Coming in a handy half-bottle, this dessert style wine is full of marmalade goodness on the nose and palate, along with candied lime and pears and subtle spice. It's all wrapped up in lip-licking sweetness, balanced acidity, and a smooth, honeyed finish. Excellent with soft cheeses or fruit crumble.

Winemaker's Notes

Delicate orange blossom aromas with a long, crisp palate showing sweet fig and marmalade characters. The aromas balance with Botrytis flavours to create a crisp style of dessert Riesling with a lingering taste and refreshing finish. Delightful with blue cheese, passionfruit cheesecake, milk chocolate mousse, or fresh fruit tarts.

2015 Josef Chromy Botrytis Riesling (375ml)

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2015 Vintage) says
Tasmania does these wines so well it must give any German winemakers who taste them a shiver down their spine. This riesling has 170g/l of residual sugar, but it also has intense lime juice fruit and electric acidity. There will also be more complexity down the track.

Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
There s simple honeyed peach and pear fruits here, a little spice too, quite lifted and fragrant. The palate has poached pear and pear drop flavours, honeyed, spiced apple and a soft, juicy slide through the back.
Good Wine Guide
Tyson Stelzer (2011 Vintage) says
A succulent and sweet botrytis that carries the spice of the cool 2011 season in nuances of kaffir lime and white pepper, making for a particularly enticing dessert style. Impressively fruit-focused and persistent, with a primary freshness and long, succulent, sweet finish. It will appreciate a stern chill, and will improve as it builds complexity with age.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Bright golden-green; unashamedly sweet and no less complex, with lime, marmalade and butterscotch flavours; likely near the peak of its development.375ml.

Tyson Stelzer (2009 Vintage) says
The lowest in sweetness of Tasmania’s botrytis rieslings, the emphasis here is on a tight, zesty structure and fresh apple notes.
WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Clean, fresh, spritzig lime aromas with touches of apricot botrytis characters. The palate has weight, texture and plenty of flavour. "Ice wine-like," said one judge.
WINESTATE Volume 34 (2011) 2011
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Classic Botrytis Riesling, leaving the varietal character totally intact with pure lime juice flavours; great sweetness/acid balance and length.
Australian Wine Companion 2013 2012
Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
Chromy's botrytis riesling has impressive, clean botrytis character, showing plenty of purity and allure. The palate sports richness with elegance, honey-soaked pear flavours, pepper and mineral nuances. The finish brightens with crisp acid cut and there's a stony resolve. Young and delicious sticky.

As clean as it gets, superb purity in a concentrated late-picked style. Plenty of intense riesling citrus fruits, superb fragrance and aromatic lift. Smooth palate with impeccable sugar-acid balance; even and complete, an elegant and stylish wine.
