2015 Josef Chromy Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Super dry Riesling this one. Bone dry. Dry enough that suddenly you want to drink more of it just to keep hydrated. What is so attractive about this wine though is that it's not hard - just refreshing. Like slightly acidic rainwater (though much more likely to get you drunk). Best drunk icy cold on a very hot day.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour: Pale straw with light green hues

Aroma: Floral aromatics of apple and lemon blossom with hints of lavender, overlay freshly cut lime and ginger spice

Palate: Juicy lime and lemon curd characters combine with pomegranate and bath salts. The long, crisp citrus palate is balanced by gentle chalky texture and the natural cool climate acidity, creating a wine of length and structure

Cellaring: Due to our naturally high acid levels in our Rieslings, they have great cellaring potential. Whilst pleasant drinking now, with further cellaring this wine will develop a richer palate and honeyed toasty flavours. Cellaring – Now to 2025

Food Pairing: Fresh seafood, especially oysters and scallops

Wine Companion (2015 Vintage) says
Taut and linear. Slate, mineral and citrus, in that order of impact. Juicy finish. Hit of lime rind to the aftertaste. Elegant but not at all lacking. Don't leave it at the altar.

Tyson Stelzer (2013 Vintage) says
A commanding riesling, beautifully pure, impeccably honed and intricately structured, with a fine, slatey, mineral mouth feel and a razor line of acidity. A long-term proposition.
James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; intense lime and spice aromas lead into an equally intense palate, complete with the grippy Tasmanian (in the best sense) acidity, lengthening the palate and finish.

Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Intense and penetrating citrus aromas and flavours; the palate has great length, accelerating on the finish, the acidity playing a major part without upsetting the balance of the wine.
