This is the entry point pinot noir for Kooyong, and it's made to be approachable and easy to drink. There are appealing red berried fruits on the nose of raspberries, cherries and strawberries, together with whiffs of chopped herbs. The palate is light and bright with red fruit flavours, slight earthiness, upright acidity, friendly tannins, and a dry, modest finish. It will go with a range of foods, and you can even serve it chilled.

Generous and flavoursome, likely to flesh out over the shorter term, with a punchy bouquet of beetroot, dark cherries, plums and baked earth backed by hints of blue flowers and tomato stalk. Medium in weight, with pure, intense flavours of plums, cherries and blueberries suppoted by tight, dusty tannins, it finishes with length and a refreshing acidity.

A young, easy pinot here. This has a slightly sweaty nose, reduced raspberry fruits on offer: a simple, light fragrance. The palate has a slightly skinny shape, taut and twangy, acidity makes a strong play, and overall it s a little hard and hard to love for the money. A tale of a tough vintage.

Very gentle and reserved, this supple and marginally hollow young pinot has a bright, rather fragile grenache-like presence of sour-edged cherries, plums and berries. Its briary bouquet of blue and red flowers, red fruits and cola has a minty, menthol-like aspect, while its sappy, fine-grained palate finishes a little thin, with a hint of currant.

This has the slightly reductive stamp of Kooyong winemaker Sandro Mosele and is still very youthful. Light and lofty red fruits, low-key oak and gentle fleshy fruit here. The acidity is reasonably bright and the wine has smooth, simple, glossy dark cherry/berry flavour. A grown-up, easygoing pinot.

Generous, plump and juicy, this fresh and forward young pinot has a floral perfume and a meaty, slightly musk expression of sweet black and red cherries, plums and dark berries backed by earthy notes and chocolate oak. Luscious, mouthfilling and well-ripened, with a firmish, pliant undercarriage and a drying, savoury finish, it's approachable and ready to drink now but will also improve over a moderate distance in the cellar.

It's made to be a 'bistro' pinot noir, but it's a more serious wine than that. Each release seems to outdo the previous one too. An excellent example of how far Australian pinot noir has come. This has dry, minerally length, lots of savouriness, twists of dried herbs and leaps of acidity. It's delightful in a dry and savoury way, and it definitely needs food to drink at its best - exactly the way it was designed.

winemaker's notes

Savoury aromas of wet stone and dried sage-like herbs lead into wild ripe berries - namely raspberry and blackberry. Medium in weight and finely structured, the lengthy and intense palate has a gently juicy and velvety elegance complete with cool blue fruit flavours.
