Cracka Review

It’s rare to find a Riesling from the Margaret River, even rarer to find one that’s as celebrated as the Leeuwin Art Series. Not only do you get a hand painted label by John Olsen, you also get the promise of aromatic goodness. It has all the hallmarks of great Riesling thanks to aromas of lime, spice and jasmine. The palate hinges on a citrus acidity which is long and intense and all you could ask for to pair with a plate of oysters.

Winemaker's Notes

Bright straw green in colour. The 2015 Riesling exhibits concentrated aromas of citrus blossom, sweet spice, musk and subtle perfume of golden delicious apples. The palate reveals incredible freshness with soft lingering flavours of freshly cut Australian finger limes, crisp granny smith and jasmine spice which are balanced and fine, the delicate natural acidity drives the palate into a persistent mineral finish.

James Halliday (2014 Vintage) says
Hard wine to criticise. It's not especially intense but its flavours of lime juice, fennel and spice are most attractive. Runs clear and pure through the finish. Drink young, drink well.

Huon Hooke (2014 Vintage) says
Pale lemon colour. The aromas are fresh and clean, citrusy in the lemon and lime spectrum, rather than flowery. The palate is dry and tight, clean and crisp, but with some breadth and well-handed grip.

Rob Geddes MW (2012 Vintage) says
Very consistent generosity from year to year with concentrated pungent aromas revealing flowery apple orchards, jasmine, lime citrus and a lick of spice. The palate is weighty, long and intense, richly textured and concentrated with acidity guiding the flavours so they explode in the mouth and fill the tongue to linger enticingly. Ripe lime flavours and lemon pith to finish.

Jeremy Oliver (2012 Vintage) says
Bright, fresh and juicy, this long and chalky Riesling reveals a pure and lively bouquet of penetrative apple, pear and lemon pith aromas. Long and complete, its palate of pristine lime juice and stonefruit flavor is tightly wound around a fine mineral texture, finishing with charming focus and balance.

The finest vintage yet of this popular wine has a fragrant scent of apple blossom, lime juice, green apples and chalky undertones. It's ripe, juicy and mouthfilling, with a crunchy, tangy expression of persistent lemony fruit finishing with plenty of drive, focus and a fresh acidity.
The Australian Wine Annual 2013
Ray Jordan (2011 Vintage) says
Year in and year out this Riesling is so consistent, It has its own distinctive style which is as much subregional as varietal. Floral and minerally with a distinctive spicy twist. IT’s perfect for immediate drinking with its fine delicate acid and sustained flavour. Lovely fresh wine. Picked early to retain its fineness.

Fresh, juicy and essence-like, this luscious, tightly knit riesling has a punchy bouquet of white flowers, lime juice and apple backed by mineral-like notes of lemon sherbet. it's long, luscious and mouthfilling. but underpinned by a very fine slatey chalkiness, finishing with with tightness and focus, wound around fresh lime and lemon juice acids.

Dominant lemon zest on the nose with subtle perfumes of bath salts. Fine and quite delicate palate with a really fine acid sustaining a long palate. One of the most delicate and impressive Leeuwin rieslings yet. Lovely wine for drinking in the next few years

A great aperitif. Pretty floral juicy fruit and lemon confectionary boiled sweets very opulent long bigger framed flavours drinkable mid-palate depth and a long complex citrus flavour mouth watering acidity at around 3 years of age. Drink within two years of vintage or wait till they turn four for the complexity.

Bright straw-green; fresh, crisp, bright and lively; citrus and mineral flavours with good length; the best-seller in the Leeuwin stable.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Clean and fragrant; a delicate mix of apple, lime and mineral with good length. As good as they come from the region.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Light green-yellow; the moderately intense bouquet is in a predominantly citrus mould. The palate has nice flavour and weight, again citrus and lime; the best Art Series Riesling for many years.
