cracka review

Burgundy doesn't ever come this good, this cheap, ever. In fact, we keep expecting the importer to ring us up and say 'Hey Team Cracka, you f*cked up the price on that Les Trois'. We might turn the phone off this afternoon...

But back to this wine. If you like joyous, juicy and utterly seductive reds, then you're going to like this wine. You really are.

A blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir, this taps into the joy of both grapes, and backs everything up with some surprising, life-affirming tannins.

Campbell Mattinson describes it even better, calling this a 'smiling assassin of a wine' that is 'perfumed and quite gorgeous to drink' but 'churns with a serious turn to tannin through the back half'.

Delicious light bodied red, from a superb vintage, and at this price? Incredible. Little wonder that Campbell also said 'I personally would buy and drink this'.

expert reviews

Campbell Mattinson (2015 Vintage) says
"It’s full of bright, cherried, exuberant fruit – upfront and delicious – and then churns with a serious turn to tannin through the back half. A smiling assassin of a wine. It’s perfumed and it’s quite gorgeous to drink. I enjoyed it throughly at the tasting and even more at home from a fresh bottle. Super clean, fresh and tasty. It’s a bit schizophrenic but I personally would buy and drink this." Campbell Mattinson

winemaker's notes

Hand-picked fruit from a two close-planted vineyards. Primarily de-stemmed and then fermented primarily in small one tonne open fermenters with hand plunging. 20% carbonic maturation. Racked partially to French oak barriques, 20% new for six months maturation before bottling with minimal fining or filtration.

As in much of Europe, 2015 was an outstanding vintage in Burgundy, combining the three core elements of a great season. Firstly winter and spring were very wet, ensuring excellent soil moisture levels. Secondly a hot, dry summer followed ensuring good growth and healthy vineyards. Finally a moderate but clear Autumn ensured steady ripening and the cool nights courtesy of the clear skies allowed the retention of freshness and natural acidity. Although yields were a touch low, the wines are fantastic with lovely aromatics, excellent depth of flavour and vibrant acidity.

A complex and evocative nose with an array of red cherry, woodspice, wild forest and almost gamey aromas. The palate is medium to full bodied and fruit driven with more red fruits, fennel and spice along with some darker, exotic notes. Fine tannins and bright acidity provide shape to a wine still developing.
