Cracka Review

Yarra Valley Pinot is kicking some serious goals of late and this is a prime example of the potential of the variety in 'the valley'. Think bright fruit, seductive perfume, accessible yet complex with a fine acid line running through. The fruit for this wine comes primarily from their Yarra Junction Vineyard (70%) with the remainder from the famous Dixon's Creek Vineyard. Classic Pinot fruit on the nose, with aromas of cherry, berries and integrated oak. Silky and refined with a concentrated richness, this is a Pinot of persuasive power.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour: Semi translucent bright dark red colour with a dark crimson red hue

Nose: Fragrant scents of dark cherries laced with a hint of mint are followed by anise, meaty clove like characters and spicy cedar

Palate: Light and very supple in texture the palate features flavours of red cherries, strawberries and a hint of sour cherry over some stemmy cedar and spice. Quite savoury with very finely grained, velvet like tannins. Aftertaste of red and sour cherries, stemmy cedar and spice

Drink over the next 3-4 years.

Alc/vol: 12.9%

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
From the estate Yarra Junction vineyard (70%) and 30% from Dixons Creek; a 4-clone mix with multiple picking dates Feb-Mar; destemmed to open fermenters, then 12 months in French oak (30% new). Barrel selection has resulted in an intense bouquet and palate, with juicy cherry fruit and a lingering finish.
