Sourced from 60-year-old vines that were almost bulldozed, this is quite a full-bodied, dense style of Shiraz that is choc-a-block full of sweet dark fruits on the nose, along with a good dose of pepper spice, and a touch of deli meats. The palate is rich and sweetly fruited, with lots of sandy tannins, a lick of mocha oak, and a lush fruit sweet finish. it's a big red lovers delight!

Old vine Shiraz out of the Barossa. Sweet and ripe. This is luscious red wine drinking. Tar, honey, baked plums and dried herbs. It loads up the palate with flavour, all sweet and loose and delicious.

winemaker's notes

Grape variety: 100% Shiraz

Background: The sixty year old Shiraz vines from Greenock that produced the original wine were ready to be uprooted due to the lack of yields and the reluctance of other companies to pay a premium for this excellent fruit. After repeated requests for access to these grapes, at 'the eleventh hour' our growers decided to stop the bulldozer and retain a small area of these vines.

Winemaking: The eleventh hour Shiraz is sourced from two vineyards located in the Greenock and Stonewell, sub-regions of the Barossa. De-stemming without crushing, we ferment each parcel naturally and in separate batches in open fomenters followed by basket pressing. Aged in seasoned French oak barrels for 15 months, the wine was moved to tank in individual components for several months before blending and bottling without fining or filtration in July 2016.

The Wine: Following the rich and fruity 2014 vintage, the 2015 shows refined, svelte and subtle qualities. An amazing deep rich, almost impenetrable, colour is heightened by a bright magenta hue. Fresh cherry and blackberry notes give way to blue fruits, supported by aromas of wild fennel, black pepper, aniseed and hints of clove and nutmeg. The opulent palate is full of blueberries, dark chocolate with typical Barossa plummy fruit sweetness. Natural fruit tannins are fine and focussed with the fresh acidity ensures gives verve and direction, without sacrificing the all important skeleton of structure required to reward drinkers for many years to come.
