Cracka Review

If there’s one white style that is seeing a resurgence in quality then it’s Chardonnay, and the Cracka office is always excited by our latest finds. The Hilltops region also represents an excitement as far as up and coming regions go thanks to its altitude and cool climate. This Chardonnay from Moppity is seriously hot property with a rich core of fig, peach and citrus. This is superbly structured with some lavish oak that does not dominate but lends some cashew nut notes and creamy complexity. This is a wine that will seriously impress the socks off any self-respecting Chardonnay lover.

Winemaker's Notes

A brilliant and pure expression of modern Australian Chardonnay, with a nod to the great wines of Burgundy. Sourced from Tumbarumba’s iconic Coppabella Vineyard, this wine points to Chardonnay’s future direction in Australia, with its poise, restraint and finely chiselled detail.

A delicious wine to enjoy now but will improve with several years in the cellar.

2015 Moppity Vineyards Tumbarumba Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2012 Vintage) says
From a mature, single vineyard, this is a refreshing and engaging chardonnay of excellent length with plenty of potential in the cellar. True to this especially cool season, it’s a style of racy acidity, slicing through pristine grapefruit and white peach fruit. Oak is subtle and well balanced, lending texture and line more than flavour.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Early picking allied with its cool-grown origin gives the wine Chablis-like elegance, but needs a bit more authority to the fruit; will develop in the short term.

Tyson Stelzer (2008 Vintage) says
The best of the crop from a Hilltops producer worth watching, this is a great value Chardonnay with cool Tumbarumba minerality gliding under the surface of its tight grapefruit, lemon and pink lady apple flavours.
WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Classy nose with a certain funky edge. Palate focused and delicate but has substance. Excellent, balanced wine drinking well now.
