2015 Paringa Estate Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Riesling is not the first grape you’d associate with the Mornington Peninsula yet Lindsay McCall of Paringa Estate has the midas touch and brings his interpretation of this noble grape sourced from 20-year-old vines. It’s got a varietal lift of lemon and lime with some mineral notes before a lime peel, citrus and spice palate before a drying finish. This will cellar well in the short term developing secondary characters in the bottle.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine has lifted floral characteristics along with vibrant varietal lemon and lime aromas. The palate has delicate spicy lemon and lime flavours that lead to a crisp dry finish. While excellent drinking in its first 2 to 3 years, this wine has the potential for considerable aging.

Vivid green hue; a lean and minerally bouquet, showing fresh-squeezed lemon, ginger and lime leaf; the palate is bone dry and linear, with tangy acidity the prominent feature, and a long tail of fresh fennel and bath talc.

Light straw-green; 20-year-old estate vines, the hand-picked grapes whole bunchÑpressed; the bouquet is flowery, the lime/citrus palate with length and unexpected grip to the finish that has to be part of the inherent flavour of the grapes, and reflects the low pH and high natural acidity. Dyed-in-the wool cellaring proposition.

Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
A complex tropical- and citrus-scented riesling from one of the Mornington Peninsula's greatest wineries; really exotic fruits, complex and fragrant too. The palate has sweet candied lime flavour, and plenty of fleshy texture -early-drinking appeal.

Full-flavored; ripe lime with a touch of tropical fruit; not the usual finesse, but ready now

An aromatic lime and blossom bouquet; elegant, long and intense; Paringa Estate breaks all the rules making a riesling of this quality from a coastal climate; the citrus fruit line goes on and on.

Pale straw-green; tight, reserved bouquet; a fine, elegant and crisp palate, fruit swelling on the lime and mineral finish.
