2015 Paxton Tempranillo

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

There is a perception that anyone who’s into organics or biodynamics wears a cardigan and strokes their beard while talking to the vines. True in some cases but at Paxton in the McLaren Vale they use the finest and most honest viticultural practices to bring the very essence of the vineyard into every bottle. The Spanish grape Tempranillo has taken a liking to the McLaren Vale and this food-friendly red shows all the generosity of the region with succulent fruit, a pleasing earthy structure and really approachable tannins. It’s even better with a plate of meat-based Tapas.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour: Vibrant red with purple hues

Aroma: A fruit forward nose with hints of blackberry, pomegranate and raspberry liquorice

Palate: Medium to full bodied wine, with raspberry fruits, integrated oak and balanced tannins on the finish

Cellaring: A drink now style of wine, however, careful cellaring of 4-8 years will be rewarded

Alc/vol: 14.0%

Campbell Mattinson (2015 Vintage) says
From both organic and biodynamic vineyards. Regardless it is 100% lipsmackingly delicious. You could bottle this and market it as a cure for depression (joke, but you get the point). It's all licorice, earth, spice and choc, in flavour terms, but it feels velvety and succulent as well. In short, it's a cracking drink.
