2015 Philip Shaw The Architect Chardonnay

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

If you want to back a Chardonnay from Orange make sure it’s this one as it’s a Shaw thing. Excuse the terrible pun but there’s real talent in everything Philip Shaw touches due to over thirty years in the business. It was always his dream to make wines from the region and the Architect is a well-structured white. It’s full of rich aromas of citrus and honey. The fruit is subtle on the palate but it’s an elegant, structured white wine that really shows it’s true character with food, particularly chicken or seafood.

Winemaker's Notes

The Architect is pale straw yellow with a slight green tinge. The nose is complex and alluring with honeyed fruit, vibrant citrus and a touch of toast. It has a fresh palate with layers of stone fruit, savoury characteristics and creamy nuances. Bright citrusy acidity gives the wine clarity and drive.

Alc/vol: 12.2%

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; the complex bouquet has interlocking stone fruit and cashew aromas that flow into the long and polished palate, reflecting precisely judged ripeness. I am smitten with the label, part of a continuing design pattern.

Light straw-green; relatively early picking has given the wine zest and drive to its mix of citrus/grapefruit and stone fruit/melon flavours, any oak incidental. The labels in this range are brilliant.
