2015 Pizzini Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Pizzini family have quickly established themselves and gained a reputation for making some of the finest wines in the King Valley. Sauvignon Blanc grapes respond to the cool and this one is a bracingly fresh style. It’s lifted and herbaceous with cut apple and grapefruit with a sweet fruit lift before an intense yet refreshing palate of grapefruit, apple and pear. It finishes long with cleansing acids. A good fit for a simple pizza of goat’s cheese and rocket.

Winemaker's Notes

Fresh-cut herbs, tropical fruits and sweet musk on the nose. The palate has tangy, crisp appeal with green apple flavours, a little Tahitian lime citrus tang and a zesty, crisp finish.

Expert Reviews

Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
This is about variety first: proudly stamped with sauvignon blanc s vivid and distinctive tropical fruits and grassy notes; the regional accent delivers wild mountain grasses. The palate has tangy, crisp appeal with green apple flavours, a little Tahitian lime citrus tang and a zesty, crisp finish.

Interesting grapefruit and pear bouquet; the citrus element drives through on the palate, sitting comfortably alongside a savoury/mineral quality; light, fresh, crisp and dry.

Crisp and fresh; driven to the Yarra Valley by smoke taint problems in the King Valley, but does not entirely escape its clutches; is bright and lively, with good length and acidity.

A strongly minerally style, with some green apple and spice; well-made, but not particularly intense.

Clean, very correct, long palate; minerally limey tropical mix; lively acidity.

Light straw-green; the clean, minerally bouquet has herb and fruit spice aromatics; the fruit on the palate is crisp and delicate. The wine has surprising length, and has been well made.
