Cracka Review

Wineries are always going on about bins yet they are not talking about rubbish, but the vessels that store their wines. This Bin labelled 588 contains a classic Margaret River blend of Cabernet and Merlot. A carnival of black fruit assaults the nose before a palate bursting with plum, blueberry and spice. Finely textured and balanced, the Cabernet adds structure while the Merlot ensures generosity. A classic match for lamb or most red meat dishes.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2015 Redgate Bin 588 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), Cabernet Franc (20%), Merlot (12%) and Shiraz (10%). Black fruits, plums, blueberry and sweet spices (think cinnamon and nutmeg) dominate the nose. Blackcurrant, jubes and fruit pastilles drive on a palate that’s framed by fine, persistent tannins.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Bright colour; the bouquet exhibits cassis and olive with a touch of toasty oak on display; the palate is medium-bodied, with good flavour and plenty of oak in evidence, certainly harmonious with the fruit. Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Vibrant colour; redcurrant and a touch of cedar on the bouquet leads into approachable and fleshy sweet fruit on the palate; well-handled oak; a little savoury complexity lingers on the finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Very well-constructed, with good texture and structure; savoury black fruits, but no green characters whatsoever; good length.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Fresh, bright and clean, driven as much by the cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc as shiraz; zesty fruits on the crisp finish. Shiraz (48%)/Cabernet Sauvignon (32%)/Cabernet Franc (19%).
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Bright and fresh in zesty winery style; fruit forward, and not over-much structure.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Lively, fresh, savoury, tangy style; fine-grained tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz/Cabernet Franc.
